FAST RIGIDITY
VHS | 4:33 min | © 2000

The video piece Fast Rigidity focuses on the development of the acceleration of motion in real and virtual space. The basic idea for this video work was a consideration of the development of different kinds of transport of a geographic structure in a human society. The significance of the transport of information has existed since the beginning of human language. The history of information starts with the dimension of human walking speed (walking messenger) developed through the industrial revolution to mechanical vehicles (like railway, automobile and aircrafts) and telecommunication (television, telephone). It came to a point of digital communication in real time with the appearance of the computer. The paradox of the virtual world lies in the independence or mobility of mind which contrasts with the simultaneous neglection of the physical self.
